The potential danger of prestressed roof trusses of industrial halls dating back to the 1960s & 1970s will be discussed at the conference. The issue of corrosion of prestressed reinforcement is a highly debated topic, primarily due to the existence of sudden collapses of load-bearing structures which were unpredictable and uncontrollable. From abroad, we are particularly aware of cases such as the collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa and the collapse of two residential buildings in Marseille, both in 2018.
The seriousness of this issue is also evident in the severe structural damage to several significant bridge structures in Slovakia. Especially noteworthy are incidents like the bridge on International Route I/59 in Podbiel, Orava (2015), the bridge in Nižná (2016), bridge collapses in Trstená, Orava, and Velká Lódina (2020), as well as the collapse of a prestressed pedestrian footbridge in Spišská Nová Ves (2020).
The aim is to present fundamental expertise on structural integrity issues and the potential for comprehensive solutions, including information on obtaining grants for the reinforcing of roof structures.
