On 14 November 2024, a conference focused on the issue of post-tensioned roof trusses of the “ZIPP” type took place in the Jánošík Hotel in Liptovský Mikuláš. The event, sponsored by the Slovak Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž, attracted building owners, designers, structural engineers and academics. It addressed not only the risks of these trusses, but also similar problems in prestressed bridges. The event was supported by the premiere of a documentary film by Tina Diosi about the collapse of the roof of the hall in Šluknov.
Participants discussed more than two million m² of buildings in the Czech Republic and Slovakia that may be at risk and presented solutions including monitoring, temporary securing and reinforcement of structures. These measures can ensure safe operation for decades to come.
Among the speakers were Professor Martin Moravčík from the University of Žilina, who focused on the reliability of structures, Associate Professor Marková from the Czech Technical University, who spoke about the new Eurocodes, and Vladislav Bureš, who introduced the method of strengthening trusses. Petry Mynarčík from VŠB-TU Ostrava presented the results of diagnostics and load tests carried out in the unique university laboratory.
An interesting moment was the demonstration of the implementation of the reinforcement of the hall with an external steel structure. Participants wondered whether it was better to replace or reinforce the risky roofs, which was presented by representatives of Rada Building.
The recording of the conference is available online at haváriekonstrukci.cz and includes contributions from Idea Statica, Midas, PUR-Izolace and Network Group.
