He has been professionally engaged in the field of concrete structures and foundation engineering since 1982. Until 1990, he worked as a structural designer at A1 Stavoprojekt in Liberec. In December 1990, he established his own design office, specializing in structural engineering (now Statika, projekční kancelář s.r.o. since 2007), which he led until 2020. Over the years, he has served as the lead structural engineer for numerous large projects both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Currently, he is a member of the Structural Engineers’ Activity Group of the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians (ČKAIT) and a member of the ČKAIT examination board for the field of Structural and Building Dynamics. Since 2010, he has worked as a structural engineer for the Integrated Rescue System of the Liberec Region, collaborating on various emergency situations. He earned his doctorate in 2020 with a dissertation on the reliability of existing concrete structures. He has been a faculty member at the Faculty of Art and Architecture (FUA) since 1999, where he currently leads the Department of Structural Engineering and teaches specialized courses.

Prof. Ing. Martin Moravčík, PhD, works at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Žilina, Department of Structural Engineering and Bridges. His professional focus includes research activities and teaching in the areas of design and evaluation of existing concrete and prestressed structures and bridges. He is the principal investigator or co-investigator on several grant projects under the VEGA and APVV schemes, as well as expert work related to design, computational modeling, diagnostics, and reliability assessment of concrete structures.
He has authored over 150 professional and scientific articles published in domestic and international journals and presented at international conferences. Additionally, he has written a monograph on the design of prestressed structures, three university textbooks in Slovak, and three scripts in English on the design of concrete structures and bridges.
He has contributed as a co-author to the development of RVT tasks and technical guidelines for practice, focusing on the load-bearing capacity of existing bridge structures. He is the author and co-author of five revisions of technical guidelines for concrete structures. He has been involved in the implementation of European standards for the design of concrete bridges (STN EN 1992-2) into the Slovak standards system and has also contributed to its National Annex.
Additionally, he is the author of several new types of prestressed prefabricated beams for road bridge structures, such as MDP 38 and 42m for Váhostav-Sk, a.s. In his expert work, he has prepared over 250 professional reports for practical needs. His research activities have included international stays at universities in Belgium and Portugal, as well as several shorter visits to universities in Sydney and Ottawa.
